Gay Marriage Appeal Refused to be Heard by Supreme Court. Lower Court Rulings Stand. Gay Marriage Legal in Oklahoma, Indiana, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Utah.
The title of this post says it all, even if it's a bit long winded. By refusing to take the case of these states, gay marriage is legal in these states, as per the ruling of the lower courts.
I imagine it's not very long before it is legal in all states, whether by legislation or judicial ruling.

I personally think its a step in the right direction getting gay marriage legalized in all states. It is completely within every citizens rights to marry whomever they please. Proud to say that Utah has finally figured that out.
ReplyDeleteI think this was the only option the Supreme Court had, especially if they were going to agree with the lower courts anyways. I'm just grateful that they chose not to hear it and make a huge deal out of it once again, because it takes the wind out of the sails of anti-marriage groups.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting perspective! I approve (thumbs up)!
DeleteI'm just surprised it took this long for gay marriage to be legal in so many states. All religious beliefs and personal convictions aside, marriage should be a right for all people, and I'm glad that our state now sees it as such.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Under the law, they should totally be guaranteed the same rights as everyone else, but only so far as they don't violate the religious beliefs of others in exercising those rights.
DeleteThere really is no valid defense for prohibiting gay marriage, it's a civil rights infringement to deny a government- recognized marriage to anyone. It was only a matter of time.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's only a matter of time before it's legal everywhere in the US. And I like everyone else who has a stance on the issue opposite of the trend right now will have to adapt a bit and learn to be a bit more accepting in our communities... but if the day ever comes that the push for gay rights leads to the forcing of my religion to perform and conform opposite to established doctrines, then it is too far. Frankly, the day the government orders the Church to marry a gay couple in a temple (and I hope that day never comes and I doubt it will) is the day I grab a shotgun and wait on the steps to guard what is sacred. My freedom of religious belief comes before anything else to me.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what Europeans think when they find out about the laws here. It's legal in some states but not others. It's only a matter of time before the law becomes the same across the country.
